Shiatsu

Shiatsu finds its origin in Japan as a form of traditional preventive medical care. It finds its place somewhere between physiotherapy and psychology. It works along the energy lines throughout the body where stress manifests itself as energy stagnation, which indeed is the very beginning of illness. This stress is detected and revealed on a bodily level. The system can then recognise it as such, whereby it can be released.

Shiatsu at its best is the deep listening of two hands on a body

Inspired by a style of shiatsu developed at The Nei Guan Institute Amsterdam, its theory and practical application are strongly influenced by the anatomy of movement, the observation of visible structure and movement pattern in the human body.
The wisdom of the ancient eastern concept of energy is translated into the universal laws of nature, the language of the body.
The combination of active body workout and passive body treatment merge to complement each other on a most effective level.

This work approach encourages the rediscovery of the body’s own healing potential. It stimulates all body functions, cardio-vascular, lymphatic… and pacifies the nervous system, improving respiratory, digestive and immune functions; restores vitality as well as reduces stress related tension and anxiety.
